Just to throw in my own experience with the 2i2, I've been recording with it for 3 months now and enjoy it. My previous Line 6 Pod GX cheaper interface didn't had those problems at all at least. Might be that that is causing timing issues, don't know. I do believe I have my i7-860 overclocked a bit, by raising my motherboard bus from 133 to 166. My Steelseries Sibera USB headset doesn't have this problem, so it's not my USB bus giving out or something. Playing Rocksmith is quite annoying if it stops handling audio all of a sudden.

I have to unplug and replug the USB cable and it works (most programs it even works straight away without restarting it, but still).

Running on Windows7 圆4 btw, but using 32bit Reaper / VSTs.Īlso, if I use it in Windows as a regular DirectSound device (games / movies) it has the tendency to just stop producing audio every hour or so. Might be a Scarlett driver issue, might be a Reaper issue. While trying to master a track after 3 or 4 try-out renders the audio driver just stops and I have to restart Reaper. Some days I can track and mix for hours (and long nights) without issues. I have to close reaper and restart it and then it works again. The Focusrite ASIO driver reports no inputs / outputs then. Reaper doesn't crash, but after rendering a few times it sometimes says there's a problem with the audio device. My Reaper (in a 24bit / 48 project) still has some issues that it gives up on me sometimes. Changing an existing project in Reaper from 48 to 96 locks Reaper up most of the time.

Starting any new project in 96 also works fine. But in Cantabile for example, turning the audio engine off, changing the settings to 96 and starting it again works just fine.

Like you guys, changing a project or program from 44.1/48 to 96 has the tendency to lock it up. We have a proper ASIO device in Scarlett's, so don't ever ever ever use ASIO4ALL for those. You use ASIO4ALL if you DON'T have a proper ASIO device, and want to emulate ASIO support for things like onboard audio. You don't use ASIO4ALL!!! No no no no no. My scarlett also has only 16bit options in the control panel, but Reaper is saying 24bit no problem. Whatever is in the default Windows settings, has _nothing_ to do with how your device behaves through ASIO (and all DAW's). if you have a scarlett, you have a proper ASIO device. Higher bit-depth samples offer the potential for a higher signal-to-noise ratio.Hmm. In addition, ASIO supports 24-bit samples, unlike Windows NT 5.x MME and DirectSound which truncate 24-bit samples to the upper 16 bits, whereas Windows NT 6.x mixer provides 32-bit floating point output. Unlike KMixer, an unmixed ASIO output is "bit identical" or "bit perfect" that is, the bits sent to or received from the audio interface are identical to those of the original source, thus potentially providing higher audio fidelity. Its main strength lies in its method of bypassing the inherently high latency and poor-quality mixing and sample rate conversion of Windows NT 5.x audio mixing kernels (KMixer), allowing direct, high speed communication with audio hardware. In this way ASIO offers a relatively simple way of accessing multiple audio inputs and outputs independently. Each layer that is bypassed means a reduction in latency (the delay between an application sending audio information and it being reproduced by the sound card, or input signals from the sound card being available to the application).

Whereas Microsoft’s DirectSound is commonly used as an intermediary signal path for non-professional users, ASIO allows musicians and sound engineers to access external hardware directly.ĪSIO bypasses the normal audio path from a user application through layers of intermediary Windows operating system software so that an application connects directly to the sound card hardware. Audio Stream Input/Output ( ASIO) is a computer sound card driver protocol for digital audio specified by Steinberg, providing a low-latency and high fidelity interface between a software application and a computer's sound card.
